Near SISTERS, Ore. — Residents will continue to see plumes of smoke coming from the Pole Creek Fire Friday, which is located about six miles southwest of Sisters.
The fire grew overnight on its northwest and southwest edges. It is burning an estimated 5,677 acres. The fire is 10 percent contained.
County health officials say people with respiratory problems or other health issues should stay indoors with their windows and doors closed while there is heavy smoke.
There are also some closures in place. They include Forest Roads 15 and 16 (Three Creeks Rd); spur roads, trailheads and Three Creeks Campground area. Click here for closure maps.
Emergency officials say there is no immediate threat of evacuation right now. If there is, 911 dispatch will call residents in the area with a recorded message. Residents can also sign up to receive these messages on their cell phone by clicking here.
There will be two emergency preparedness meetings this Saturday, Sept. 15 at Sisters Elementary School. Firefighters will update conditions and educate residents on proper procedure in case of evacuation. The meetings are slated for 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
