Editor’s note: U.S. Congress needs to pass a funding bill for the Department of Homeland Security by the end of Friday to avoid a shutdown of the agency. A previous funding bill failed in the Senate because it included provisions to defund President Obama’s immigration executive order, prompting a filibuster by Democrats. Thursday night, the Senate adjourned with votes on a clean DHS spending bill set for 10 a.m. ET Friday. The House may consider a three-week stopgap funding bill to avoid a partial shutdown, buying more time for House Republicans who want to derail Obama’s immigration action. It is not clear if House Speaker John Boehner will try to pass the Senate’s clean bill or reattach the immigration amendments, USA TODAY reports. – Stephanie
