Firefighters find body in burned out car

SALISBURY, N.C. -- Police found a body in a burning car Friday afternoon in western Rowan County.
The body has not yet been identified and the Rowan County Sheriff's Office did not say if they suspected foul play.
The Woodleaf Volunteer Fire Department responded to car on fire in a field off of Old U.S. Highway 70 around 4:20 p.m. A neighbor in the area saw smoke and he went to investigate, discovered the burning car and called 911.
When firefighters put out the flames, they found the body inside the car.
Police arrived and began collecting evidence and establishing leads to identify the body.
Police said the car was a 1989 Honda Civic. Investigators were able to collect the car’s license plate, a burned wallet and a key chain with a key.
The body has already been sent off for an autopsy.
