US job openings hit 5-month high in May, Labor Department says - @Reuters

U.S. job openings rose in May by the most in five months, a hopeful sign for a labor market buffeted by a sharp slowdown in hiring.

Job openings -- a measure of labor demand -- rose by 195,000, to 3.642 million, the Labor Department said on Tuesday in its monthly Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey.

The increase was broad based, with manufacturing vacancies rising 51,000, to 310,000.
