On Thursday, Hal G. Brown, Deputy Director of the Delaware Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, identified the skull as Timothy Finamore of Newark.
A deputy responding to a report of an attempted robbery Saturday morning in Jurupa Valley fatally shot the suspect, who allegedly threatened to shoot the officer, authorities said.
The officer-involved-shooting occurred at about 9 a.m. in the 3600 block of Pacific Avenue (map), according to Riverside County Sheriff's Department Deputy Angel Ramos.
When police arrived on the scene and located the suspect, he tried to run away, Ramos said.
"When one of the deputies caught up to the suspect, the suspect stated he had a gun and threatened to shoot the officer,'' Ramos said. "The officer, in fear of his life, fired his duty weapon, striking the suspect.''
Paramedics were called to provide medical treatment, but when the suspect was taken to a hospital, he died of his injuries, Ramos said.
The name of the suspect was withheld pending family notification.
The officer who shot the suspect had been placed on paid administrative leave, according to Ramos.
"The investigation is continuing and there is no additional information available for release at this time," Ramos said.
