Police search for suspected armed robber in Greater Manchester, say no shots fired but try to avoid area - @BBCNews

Armed police are on the streets in Tameside after a robbery by a man carrying a gun.

Officers were called at 10:25 BST to an address in Market Street, Hollingworth, after reports of a man armed with a gun making threats.

Greater Manchester Police said it was thought no shots were fired, but an amount of cash was stolen in the incident.

Part of the street has been closed off, with a police helicopter in operation.

The closures in place, on the A628 near Spring Street, Water Street and Taylor Street, are causing significant traffic delays.

Assistant Chief Constable Garry Shewan, from Greater Manchester Police, said: "We are at the early stages of an operation to trace the offender, with public safety being of paramount importance to us.

"We have had no reports of any shots being fired, and officers on the ground are working with local residents to offer reassurance."
