A man faces a string of criminal charges stemming from a Sunday fight that sent an audience watching "The Dark Knight Rises" at The Waterfront scrambling for the exits, though police said the scuffle had nothing to do with the Batman sequel nor with last week's violence during a screening in Colorado.
Instead, officers said, the violence began in a bathroom, where a child knocked on the door of a stall and a man inside repeatedly told him it was occupied.
The child swore at the man, who became offended and confronted the boy's mother, at one point punching her in the face, police said.
As the argument escalated, someone shouted "Gun!" which produced a panic, police said.
Movie-goers, perhaps jittery after 12 people were killed and dozens of others were wounded during a showing of the Batman movie in Aurora, Colo., dashed for the doors.
The man, 51, whose name police would not immediately release, will be charged with simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment.
