President Barack Obama and the Republicans are using their weekly media messages to try to console those grief-stricken over the Colorado theater massacre the killed 12 people and injured 58.
Obama says he hopes everyone takes time this weekend "for prayer and reflection -- for the victims of this terrible tragedy, for the people who knew them and loved them, for those who are still struggling to recover."
The president says Americans should also think about "all the victims of the less publicized acts of violence that plague our communities on a daily basis."
For the Republicans, House Speaker John Boehner says lawmakers join Obama in offering condolences and prayers to the loved ones of those who were killed and wounded.
He says America can pull together "when confronted with evil we cannot comprehend."
