Kerry Kennedy, the ex-wife of Gov. Andrew Cuomo, was arrested in Westchester Friday morning for allegedly driving under the influence of drugs, police said.
Police responded to 911 calls of a vehicle operating in an erratic manner on Interstate 684 at around 8 a.m. The car, a white 2008 Lexus RS 350, collided with a tractor-trailer, sustaining damage and a flat tire, before driving off the highway at exit 3, authorities said.
Police located the car on a state road. State police arrived and determined Kennedy, 52, was operating the car while impaired by drugs.
A source familiar with the situation says police found her passed out behind the wheel.
Kennedy consented to give blood for analysis, and official results could come in a week.
She was issued uniform traffic tickets and is due in North Castle court on July 17. Driving while under the influence of drugs is a misdemeanor charge.
Kennedy's publicist, Ken Sunshine, said Friday she was not under the influence of drug or alcohol.
“Kerry Kennedy voluntarily took breathalyzer, blood and urine tests – all of which showed no drugs or alcohol whatsoever in her system," he said in a statement. "The charges were filed before the test results were available."
