Floods kill 53 in southern Russia

MOSCOW — The death toll from floods caused by heavy rains in Russia's southern Krasnodarsky Krai region over the past two days has gone up to 53 as authorities discovered more bodies, police said on Saturday.

Forty two bodies including that of a 10-year-old were found in the region's Krymsk district, regional police spokesman Igor Zhelyabin told AFP. The previous death toll in the Krymsk district stood at 35. Nine more people died in the Black Sea resort town of Gelendzhik and another two in the port of Novorossiisk.
