POLICE have swarmed around a Redbank Plains home where a man with a knife is holding a woman hostage.
Police have cordoned off Kanangra Street in Redbank Plains following reports that a man is holding a woman inside against her will.
The street has been blocked off at both ends by police and fire crews and paramedics are also in attendance.
The incident was reported to police around 7.30am.
Police say it is understood the man is armed with a knife.
The dog squad and a police negotiator is also on scene.
Shocked neighbours and residents have emerged from their homes, while police have encouraged them to stay indoors.
Emily Kelly, with her seven-week-old daughter in her arms, said she was shocked.
"We get a few cars going past doing burn-outs but nothing quite like this," she said.
"It's quite frightening."
Family and friends of the man and woman involved have also arrived at the property.
Police said they do not believe any children are in the home.
