METRO VANCOUVER - Several SkyTrain passengers suffered minor injuries Sunday night after a man randomly discharged a can of bear spray into into two train cars.

Transit Police said the man, who was travelling by train, discharged the bear spray in a car at Columbia station just before 7 p.m. and then shortly afterward at Scott Road Station. Several people suffered "discomfort and minor injuries" related to the spray, police said.

The man was arrested and is facing a number of several charges of assault with a weapon.

Police had earlier been patrolling the transit system and monitoring the flow of passengers heading into Vancouver for Game 5 of the Stanley Cup playoffs. Officers noted the crowds were not typical for pre-game hockey volumes and that once the game had ended, the crowds dissipated quickly.
