Judge refuses to throw out child sex abuse charges against former Penn State coach Jerry Sandusky - @centredailycom

BELLEFONTE — Attorneys in the Jerry Sandusky case will be able to question potential jurors individually.

That is part of the order Senior Judge John Cleland issued today. Cleland did not rule on whether the jury will be sequestered, instead leaving that to be addressed when the case goes to trial.

Defense attorney Joe Amendola asked for the sequestered jury, saying he didn't want the jurors exposed to the publicity and reports of the testimony during the trial. The prosecution didn't object to the motion.

Jury selection is slated to begin June 5.

Cleland also ruled today that it's too early to decide on the defense's pre-trial motions to dismiss the charges because of the state's ongoing grand jury investigation.

Sandusky is facing charges for allegedly sexually abusing 10 boys. The former Penn State football coach maintains his innocence.

Earlier this week, Cleland issued a gag order, telling lawyers on both sides of the case they can't discuss it with the media.
