Christopher Waller, the former principal at Parks Middle School, resigned from Atlanta Public Schools Tuesday after months on administrative leave.
Waller was cast as a central figure in a state investigation into cheating on standardized tests. Investigators said he directed some of the most egregious cheating for four years at the school. Teachers reported his misconduct, but he was not disciplined, and was instead held up as a model principal by former APS leaders.
APS issued Waller an intent-to-fire letter last week. The educator submitted a brief resignation letter Tuesday, citing personal reasons.
"I've enjoyed being a principal in Atlanta Public Schools, working with students, parents, my fellow teachers and administrators," Waller wrote. "I appreciate the guidance and kindness offered [to] me during my time with the system."
