First case of locally acquired Dengue Fever reported in S. Florida - @miamiherald

The first “locally acquired” case of Dengue Fever has been reported in Miami-Dade County, health officials said Thursday.

The patient, who has since recovered, was diagnosed based on symptoms and confirmed by laboratory tests.

Dengue Fever is a viral disease transmitted by a type of mosquito common to the southeastern United States and the tropics. It is not spread from person to person.

Health officials will discuss details later Thursday.
