West Nile virus now linked to 753 cases, 20 fatalities in North Texas - @nbcdfw

West Nile virus continues to spread across North Texas where it's been linked to 753 human cases, as of Aug. 27, and 20 fatalities.

There have been 12 fatalities in Dallas County, four in Tarrant County, two in Denton County, one in Collin County, and one in Ellis County.

Dallas County (West Nile webpage)

Human Case Information
As of Aug. 27, there are 300 human cases of West Nile virus reported in Dallas County, 11 of which have resulted in death.  As of Aug. 7, 44 percent of all human cases of West Nile virus are in Dallas County.  Dallas County has more cases of West Nile virus than any other state in the union.

Garland, Mesquite and Irving are considering aerial spraying for mosquitoes.

Mosquito Pool Data
Twenty cities, DFW Airport and the unincorporated areas in Tarrant County participate in Tarrant County's Mosquito Surveillance program. As of Aug. 22, 71 mosquito pool samples from the following cities have tested positive for WNV: Arlington (10) Bedford (4), Burleson (3*), Colleyville (5), Edgecliff Village (3), Euless (3), Fort Worth (3), Grapevine (3), Haltom City (2), Hurst (9), Mansfield (3), Richland Hills (5), River Oaks (5), Saginaw (1), Southlake (6) and Westover Hills (6).

*The pools in Burleson are not in Tarrant County.

Collin County (West Nile webpage)

Human Case Information
As of Aug. 27, in Collin County, 49 cases of West Nile virus have been reported in humans, one of which has resulted in death.

Denton County (West Nile webpage)

Human Case Information
As of Aug. 27, In Denton County, 119 human cases of West Nile virus have been reported including two fatalities. The cases were found in Denton, Lewisville, The Colony, Highland Village, Flower Mound, Carrollton, Fort Worth, Frisco, Pilot Point, Trophy Club, Corinth and southern unincorporated Denton County.

Mosquito Pool Data
As of Aug. 17, 68 mosquito traps have tested positive for West Nile virus in the cities of Denton, Flower Mound and Lewisville. See a trap map here.

Cooke County
Human Case Information
As of Aug. 27, Cooke County has three human cases.
