Stanford Hospital is warning thousands of patients that their personal information may have ended up in the wrong hands.

A password-protected computer containing medical files on it was stolen from a locked doctor's office last month, according to university officials.

There is no evidence that private information has been accessed, hospital officials said. However, they are alerting 25,000 patients of the potential breach in security.

Police are investigating the theft.

Patients with questions or with information for investigators can call 855-731-6016 from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
