CARACAS—A gas leak caused a major explosion early Saturday at Venezuela's Amuay refinery, the country's largest facility, leaving at least seven people dead and 48 injured, government and local union officials said.
The blast, which is believed to have started in the propane and butane gas unit of the 640,000 barrel-a-day refinery, damaged buildings and houses in the area surrounding Amuay, authorities said.
