400 firefighters respond to California fire threatening trailer homes, other structures - @AP

More than 400 firefighters are struggling to contain a fire that threatens dozens of trailer homes and other structures in the Plumas National Forest in Northern California.

Fire officials say the Chips Fire has scorched more than 4 square miles near Belden, about 120 miles north of Sacramento. On Thursday night, it was only 5 percent contained, and full containment is not expected until Aug. 15.

The fire has spread toward Highway 70, leading officials to restrict traffic to one lane for a three-mile stretch.

The blaze that began July 29 has been fueled by high temperatures, low humidity and strong winds.

Officials say the fire threatens more than 40 buildings, including 25 homes in a nearby community and trailer park. An area along Caribou Road has been evacuated.
