Gunfire between two people erupted at a Federal way bar Wednesday morning, killing one person and wounding six others.

Officers believe the suspect and the victim who died, a 23-year-old man from Kent, opened fire on each other, according to Federal Way Police Deputy Chief Andy Wong.

The suspect was injured in the shooting and drove himself and another wounded victim to Valley Medical Center. He was released and taken to the Federal Way Police station around 7:30 a.m.

It's not known what caused the initial confrontation at Johnny's Famous Grill and Bar, located at 2318 Southwest 336th Street, just as the bar was closing. Gunfire was exchanged in front of many witnesses, said police.

When officers arrived on scene, one person was dead and two others were found shot. Later, two more victims were brought to another hospital. Finally, the suspect and another victim drove themselves to Valley Medical Center with gunshot wounds.

Police conducted a search of the SUV used to bring the suspect to the hospital.

In all, five men and one woman were injured in the shooting. The woman suffered the most serious injuries. She is being treated at Harborview Medical Center.

Many friends of the 23-years-old victim who died and others who were shot gathered in the parking lot of Johnny's afterward.

"He's a great kid, that's all I can say, not part of any gang," said a friend.

The victim leaves behind a two-year-old daughter.

More details will be posted throughout the day.
