More: CNN, ABC, Fox News call Wisconsin recall election for Gov. Scott Walker - via @Reuters

  • RT @Bencjacobs: Exit polls only have Barrett winning 18-29 52-46% and no other age demos. Explains why he got beat so badly tonight.

  • Um.. RT @WeGotEd: It's gonna be a long night...its a tight one..

  • According to The Washington Post -- Recalls are very rare — especially successful ones — and only 19 states even permit them.

The last governor who was successfully recalled was California’s Gray Davis (D) in 2003, when Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) succeeded him. Before him, the only previous example was North Dakota’s Lynn Frazier in 1921.

In Wisconsin, only four state senators (including the two last year) have been recalled in the state’s history.

Only three times in American history has a recall election switched party control of a legislative chamber: In Michigan in 1983, Wisconsin in 1996 and California in 1995.

  • RT @jamiedupree: Republicans lead in all four recall elections for state Senate in Wisconsin at this hour.

  • State Senator Jon Erpenbach tells crowd people are still voting in the city of Milwaukee. #wirecall

  • Statement from RNC Chair Reince Preibus:“I congratulate Gov. Scott Walker momentous victory in Wisconsin tonight…"

  • What does this mean for November? Wisconsin has not backed a Republican in a presidential election since it went for Ronald Reagan in 1984

  • More triumph from Priebus: “Wisconsin has given their stamp of approval to Gov. Walker’s successful reforms that balanced the budget, put people back to work, and put government back on the side of the people.

“After tonight’s results, Democrats and the Obama campaign are surely nervous. As Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz said, this election was a ‘dry run’ for the presidential election. But after President Obama actively avoided Wisconsin and Tom Barrett, one of his earliest supporters, it is hard to imagine how he can now come back to Wisconsin and credibly ask for his party’s support in November. The president abandoned his base in this recall, so he shouldn’t be surprised if they return the favor in November.

“Wisconsin Democrats now head into November dispirited and in disarray, while Republicans remain strong and organized, with momentum on our side.”

  • RT @BenjySarlin: Wow, it's almost like exit poll toplines shouldn't be trusted and indeed aren't even meant to be used that way

  • OR the web video from this morning. RT @daveweigel: Can’t believe that Obama’s tweet didn’t win it for Barrett.

  • RNC Chairman Reince Priebus out quickly with a statement congratulating Walker. "I congratulate the people of my home state in defeating the selfish special interests that wanted to take Wisconsin back to the days of Democrats’ failed policies,” he said.

  • RT @DrewMTips: John King still selling Obama/Romney exit poll data from the discredited exit polls.

  • Lawrence O'Donnell blames the Barrett lose on Citzens United.

  • RT @joeminocqua: Racine senate -- Yorkville comes in at the exact projection I had to cause an 800 vote Wanggaard margin. Hang on to you ...

  • Sarah Palin on Fox: "Maybe it's the union leadership there, those thugs who wanted to deceive their members...well perhaps it's those union leaders who need to be recalled."

  • "He keeps on, keeping on," Sarah Palin says about Walker, speaking to Fox News

  • Lawrence O'Donnell trolls everybody:"The big winner in the Wisconsin recall election is…President Obama."

  • There were people in Wisconsin who were unhappy with the constant electioneering there. whether or not they liked Walker - or were angry at his intense anti-union positions - they felt he was elected to serve his term. Interest to contrast sentiment in Wisconsin to California when Davis was recalled.

  • And now the race for State Senate begins. The numbers are tracking very close to Walker's.

  • Supporters during an election night rally for Republican Wisconsin Governor Walker in Waukesha

  • Bright spot for Democrats: Obama up over Romney 54% to 42% with recall voters. Turnout this high would be good for Obama in November.

  • Democrats may seek voting records in all 72 counties -- Courtesy Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: "The spokesman for the Democratic Party of Wisconsin said Tuesday that lawyers for the party had sent advisory open records requests to the county clerks in the state's 72 counties if the race between Gov. Scott Walker and Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett results in a recount.

Spokesman Graeme Zielinski said lawyers sent the advisory out if the possibility arises that "we need to file official open records requests tomorrow in case we are in a recount situation."

  • Kidding. Fox says Kleefisch also won in the Lt. Gov. race.
