World record crowd expected in London for final leg of World Sevens Rugby Series - @RFU_OFFICIAL

England Sevens captain Greg Barden can’t wait for the kick-off of the Marriott London Sevens.

London set a world record last season when 100,000 fans attended the two days – and this year’s 70s Disco themed event on May 12-13 will be even bigger.

England won London in 2009 in dramatic style – Micky Young’s try clinching victory against New Zealand in sudden-death extra-time in the final.

And with the series tighter than ever this season the race for the overall title could go down to the wire.

“London is now the ultimate rugby party with something for everyone,” said Barden.

“The players love it and there’s nothing better than running out at your home event with a huge crowd cheering you on.

“It’s such a cosmopolitan event that it feels like the whole of the sevens world is there and now it’s the final event of the series the stakes will be even higher.”

England’s players have bought into this year’s theme and the team have taken part in filming a TV advert posing in 70s wigs and sunglasses.

“I know the lads had great fun taking part and showing off their acting skills,” Barden added. “We can’t wait to see the finished product.”
