Body found at Kentucky Derby track

LOUISVILLE, KY - Police are investigating after a man’s body was found at Churchill Downs, hours after the race track had hosted the 138th Kentucky Derby.

Alicia Smiley, a spokeswoman for Louisville Metro Police, told NBC News the body was found after 4:30 a.m. local time in one of the barns at the rear of the race course.


NBC News affiliate Wave3.com reported that the body was found in barn number 8.

Homicide detectives are on the scene now.

Smiley could not confirm if the man was a jockey or a grounds employee, nor could she yet say whether the death was from natural causes or a homicide.

She said the body was believed to be a male, and that there were no other details available at present.

The body was found the morning after the track witnessed horse I'll Have Another win the 138th Kentucky Derby
